Assalamu alaikum. I read your answer to question number 28894 on offering tahiyyatul masjid prayer after juma khutbah has started. Your answer may be a possible explanation for the instruction given to Sulaik RA. However, one brother shared another hadith from Sahih Muslim, in which the hukm at the end is not only for Sualik, but for all:
• The khateeb should make the intention in the khutbah. Length of the khutbah: It is preferred to keep the khutbah short and concise and lengthen the prayer. 'Lengthening the salah and shortening the khutbah is a sign of the understanding of one's religion. So, lengthen the salah and shorten the khutbah.' (Muslim and Ahmad).
364. Question. Is the Friday Khutba fard or Sunnah according to Qur'an and Sunnah. If some one intentionally misses the Khutba but attends the prayer has he completed the salat of Jumu'ah? Answer. It is recommended to recite Surah (chapters) As-Sajdah (32) and Al-Insan (76) during the Dawn prayer of Friday after reciting the Al-Fatihah (1). It is also recommended to go as early as possible to the mosque for Jumu'ah. Walking to the mosque for Jumu'ah is recommended, as well as being as close to the Khatib as possible.
